RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Police have uncovered the grim truth behind the disappearance of Mohsin Ashraf, a 35-year-old prize bond dealer, who vanished 10 days ago.
The investigation revealed that Mohsin was brutally murdered by his cousin, Mehr Ali, who then burned his body in a cauldron used for melting animal fat to make soap.
According to the police, the gruesome crime was motivated by greed. Mehr lured Mohsin to his home in Samrazar Colony, Adiala Road, under the pretense of purchasing prize bonds worth Rs45 million. Once there, Mehr killed Mohsin, stole the cash, and attempted to cover up his crime by incinerating the body in the cauldron.
The victim’s family had initially filed a kidnapping case at the City Police Station after he went missing. His father, Sheikh Muhammad Ashraf, reported his son’s disappearance, which led to search by law-enforcement agencies. Police investigators focused their efforts on tracing Mohsin’s last known movements and examining his personal connections.
Suspicion eventually fell on Mehr whose behavior raised red flags during questioning. Under pressure during interrogation, Mehr confessed to the murder and detailed his horrifying attempt to dispose of the body.
The chilling crime has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents struggling to comprehend the extent of betrayal and brutality involved. Law-enforcement officials have described the incident as one of the most disturbing cases they’ve encountered, highlighting the need for vigilance and trust within families and communities.
The investigation remains ongoing as police are recovering evidence and trace the stolen money. Meanwhile, Mehr faces charges of premeditated murder and other criminal offences. This tragic case underscores the lengths to which greed and malice can drive individuals, leaving families devastated and communities shaken.
