Cop martyred in Bannu

BANNU: Suspected militants martyred a police constable near Gul Zaman mosque in the limits of Cantonment Police Station here on Friday. It was learnt that armed men opened fire on Constable Kamran Khan, who was present near the mosque.

The firing left him critically injured and he succumbed to his injuries before being transported to a hospital. His body was later taken to hospital for post-mortem examination.The accused managed to flee the scene after staging the attack. A contingent of the police arrived at the spot and launched a search operation.

Meanwhile, the martyred cop was laid to rest with state honours at his ancestral graveyard in Bannu. The funeral prayer was offered at the Police Lines Bannu.

Senior officials, including Deputy Inspector General of Police, Bannu Range, Imran Shahid, District Police Officer Ziauddin Ahmad, deputy commissioner, police officers, personnel, and others attended the funeral.

A contingent of the Bannu Police presented a salute to the fallen cop. Floral wreaths were placed on the coffin and special prayers were offered for him.Speaking on the occasion, DIG Bannu Imran Shahid said such acts of terrorism could not weaken the resolve of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police. He added that the police would spare no effort to maintain law and order and restore peace.
