This letter refers to the article ‘Why Pakistan faltered’ (December 31, 2024) by Ameenah Babar. I respectfully disagree with some of the views expressed by the writer pertaining to the ideas of Dr Ishrat Husain. I must say that I find the views of Dr Husain rather too simplistic. It is incorrect to cast the Pakistani civil bureaucracy as the main cause for the problems we have faced over the years.
The basic fact is that there are multiple and highly complicated aspects to be taken into account when trying to undertake a rational study of the reasons for the various failures and successes of Pakistan.
