KARACHI: The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) and the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) are joining forces to promote the country’s burgeoning IT sector.
In a recent meeting between PSEB’s Chief Executive Officer Abu Bakar and TDAP Secretary Sheryar Taj, discussions focused on strategies to enhance the country’s IT exports and international presence.
Abu Bakar highlighted the impressive growth of IT and IT-enabled services (ITeS) exports, which reached $3.2 billion in the fiscal year 2024. He expressed optimism about the sector’s trajectory, projecting exports to grow by 33 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to $4.5 billion in the current fiscal year. He also noted PSEB’s active participation in nine international IT exhibitions this year, with plans for 11 more by June 2025 in collaboration with TDAP.
Taj underscored the importance of close cooperation between TDAP and the PSEB to further strengthen the IT sector. He proposed revising the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two organisations to enhance collaboration.
Taj suggested organising the country’s first-ever IT mega event, bringing leading IT companies together on a single platform to showcase their products to global businesses and investors. He also invited the PSEB to contribute to the formulation of TDAP’s three-year IT export development plan, set to begin in the next fiscal year.
The collaborative initiatives aim to position the country’s IT sector as a key player in the global market while fostering innovation, investment and export growth.
