LAHORE: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Railways, chaired by Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan, convened a two-day meeting in Lahore on Thursday.
Divisional Superintendent (DS) Railways Hanif Gul briefed the committee on the first day regarding the performance, operational matters, and key areas of the Lahore Division.
The meeting was attended by members Abrar Ahmad, Waseem Qadir, Zulfiqar Sattar Bachani, Ramesh Lal, Muhammad Ilyas Chaudhry, Syed Shah Ahad Ali Shah, Muhammad Jamal Ahsan Khan, and Shafqat Abbas, senior Railways officials, including Chairman Railways Syed Mazhar Ali Shah and CEO Aamir Ali Baloch.
The committee members, along with Rai Hassan Nawaz Khan, conducted a detailed visit to Lahore Railway Station and the Old Diesel Locomotive Shed. They assessed the station facilities, praised the cleanliness at the Police Helpline Center and commended the executive washroom set up under a public-private partnership.
Chairman Rai Hassan Nawaz directed officials to ensure timely arrivals and departures of trains. During the visit to the Old Engine Shed, the committee appreciated the installation of a modern fuel management system in collaboration with PSO.
Later, at the Mughalpura Workshops session, Chairman Railways Syed Mazhar Ali Shah briefed about procurement, maintenance, periodic overhauling of coaches, and development of modern freight wagons. DS Workshops Kashif Farooq Butt provided insights into the structure and performance of the workshops.
