GDA leader calls for shelving Indus River canals project
HYDERABAD: Grand Democratic Alliance General Secretary Safdar Abbasi congratulated the newly elected body and governing body of the Hyderabad Press Club, and, talking to journalists, said that the current parliament of the country is not transparent; therefore, three members of the GDA in the Sindh Assembly have not taken the oath yet.
He said that the situation will worsen in the coming days. On the one hand, the economy is not growing, and on the other hand, the condition of the people is not improving. The more the current system prevails, the more problems will be created, he added.
Abbasi said that new elections should be held through negotiations to get out of the crises, for which the opposition parties have to be together so that negotiations can be held and they result in fruitful decisions. He remarked that the Election 2024 does not have credibility, there will be more problems going forward, constitutional amendments are not accepted by parliament which has no credibility of its own, and constitutional amendments are being passed through it.
He said that if the establishment is withdrawn from politics at this time, what is left? The political system of the country has been completely hijacked, and it is a critical moment for the politicians to get out of this crisis. The GDA leader said that this impression should disappear that there is only the face of Asif Ali Zardari in Sindh and no one else’s.
He said that let’s see where the negotiations between the government and the PTI stopped, but going forward, it has to be done for all the parties. Abbasi said that after selling the three rivers, now the country has three rivers left, so to supply water to the affected areas of Punjab, a plan has been made to take out canals from the Indus River as the Chashma and Thal canals have been built.
GDA Safdar Abbasi said that the project of six canals on the River Indus should be shelved. He said that the PPP should end its “hypocritical” attitude, as on the one hand it approves the canals and on the other hand it opposes them through their chief minister. He said now the people should know the truth.
He said that the GDA will be soon going to start an awareness march against the project of taking canals out of the Indus River and will make a future strategy of agitation.
