Hilly areas in KP receive snowfall

PESHAWAR: The mountainous areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa received rain and snowfall on Thursday, ending the prolonged dry spell.The mountainous areas in Hazara division, Swat, Upper Dir, Upper Chitral, and Lower Chitral received much-needed snowfall.

With the fresh snowfall, temperatures plummeted further, forcing people to stay indoors.A severe firewood shortage was reported in Upper Chitral, as residents struggled to cope with the chilling weather.

The Yarkhun valley, Torkhow, and Morkhow tehsils received a heavy snowfall.Authorities in Lower Chitral have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel due to the snowfall at the Lowari Tunnel.

In Mansehra, rain in the plains and snowfall in high-altitude areas began in the early hours and continued intermittently throughout the day.The rain, which started in Mansehra, Torghar, Upper and Lower Kohistan, and Kolai-Palas districts, caused a significant drop in temperature.

Siri Paya in the Shogran Resort and parts of the Kaghan Valley received light snowfall after nearly a month-long dry spell.The mountainous areas of the Hazara division had previously experienced the first snowfall of the season in mid to late November. Since then, the weather has remained dry.
