Islamabad: Inspector General of the National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP), Riffat Mukhtar Raja, recently visited the ‘130 Help-Line, Emergency Operations Centre,’ GPS tracking system, and Public Service Vehicles Management Centre (PSV-MIS) located at the Motorway (M-2) North Toll Plaza, says a press release.

During his visit, he closely inspected the GPS tracking system used for the monitoring of patrolling vehicles on national highways and motorways across Pakistan. The IG reviewed the performance of these vehicles and directed the officers to take steps to further enhance the efficiency and functionality of the digital GPS system. Officers of the Motorway Police briefed him on the system’s operational performance and its contribution to road safety.

Accompanied by Additional IG North Region, Yasin Farooq, and DIG Motorway (M-2) North, Salman Ali Khan, IG also reviewed the ongoing operations of the (PSV-MIS). On this occasion he highlighted the importance of the Public Service Vehicles Management System in ensuring timely inspections and improving road safety. The IG stated that National Highways & Motorway Police is leveraging cutting-edge technology for comprehensive and efficient digital and physical inspections of public service vehicles (PSVs).

The implementation of a speed control monitoring system at the Salt Range is an example of utilizing advanced technology to enhance road safety. Plans are underway to establish Public Service Vehicles Information Management Systems at all major toll plazas on motorways and highways. To date, over 13,000 buses, 16,000 drivers, and 608 transport companies have been registered through this state-of-the-art system. This has significantly reduced accidents by enabling better oversight. The system also maintains detailed records of PSV owners and staff, allowing prompt action on complaints and suggestions. The IG emphasised that creating a safe driving environment on national highways and motorways remains the National Highways & Motorway Police’s top priority.
