Woman with two daughters commit suicide

MULTAN: A woman with her two minor daughters committed suicide at Garawaywala on Wednesday night.
According to police, Tayyaba Bibi (32) had asked her husband, a security guard at the Nishtar Hospital, to give money for Eid shopping but he refused. He also scolded his wife for giving birth to daughters. It dejected Tayyaba and she along with her two daughters committed suicide by consuming acid. Police have registered a case against the woman for committing suicide along with her two daughters. Meanwhile, Tayyaba and her daughters were buried in a local graveyard on Thursday.
REHAB OF WALLED CITY: The Italian government has provided $10 million for beautification and rehabilitation of Multan walled city and work on the project is expected to execute in the current month, said District Coordination Officer Nadir Chattha.
He was addressing the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry executive committee members here on Thursday. He said that another 200 water purification plants would be installed in educational institutions to provide clean water to the students as well as the general public.
He said that the philanthropists and the MCCI members should come forward to accept the responsibility of clusters of water purification plants. Each cluster had eight to 11 plants, he added. He assured that 3.5 million out of 4 million people could get safe and pure drinking water in Multan after taking some measures.
The DCO said that encroachments would be removed after Eidul Fitr to ensure smooth flow of traffic. He said that city roads and squares would be named after prominent personalities of the area. Now, Multan was known by its octroi posts, like Chungi No 1, 7, 8, 9, 6, 22, etc, he added. He said that Multan was facing the challenge of water disposal while the post of Wasa director general had been vacant for a long time. Similarly, the Solid Waste Management Company had no structure and it was being run on political grounds, the DCO added.
Earlier, in his welcome address, MCCI president Fareed Mughis Sheikh highlighted the problems being faced by the people of Multan. He said that there was a dire need of a flyover or an underpass at a level crossing of industrial estate. Special measures should be taken to keep the flow of traffic smooth at Nawan Sheher, LMQ Road, Ghanta Ghar, Chungi No-6, Bohar Gate, Haram Gate and Vehari Road, he added.
