1,595 given Iftar items at Madni Dastarkhawans

BAHAWALPUR: Some 1,595 deserving people were given Iftar items at Madni Dastarkhawans in Bahawalpur.

Additional district Collector Ms Imrana Ajmal in a statement said these deserving people belonged to different tehsils of the district. She said Rs 169,000 were contributed by different philanthropists and representatives of business community.

CRACKDOWN WARNED: The secretary District Regional Transport Authority Thursday said a crackdown on overloading would be launched. Talking to owners of public transport and goods services in his office, he said safe journey was linked to adhering to traffic rules.

 

Hundreds demo against loadshedding

BAHAWALPUR: Hundreds of residents of Khanpur, Zahir Pir and adjoining areas staged a demonstration against the Mepco Rahimyar Khan circle authorities for conducting unscheduled loadshedding on Thursday.

The protesters blocked traffic on KLP National Highway at Chowk Zahir Pir for several hours by burning tyres. The protesters raised slogans against the government. They said that the government had failed to end loadshedding from the country. The protesters said that they were facing 8 to 10 hours unscheduled loadshedding.  Due to the protest, the motorists stuck in the traffic jam. Later, they also joined the protest.
