Besides security duties, SSU remained involved in multiple sports events in 2024

The Special Security Unit (SSU) of the Sindh police has claimed that it achieved multiple milestones under the umbrella of the Security and Emergency Services Division in 2024.

Over 1,200 SSU commandos performed security duties at high sensitive, sensitive and normal polling stations in all districts of Karachi on the occasion of the 2024 general elections. SSU commandos also acted as the Quick Response Force (QRF) in case of any emergency situation in different districts and SSU Headquarters.

Strict security arrangements were made on the occasion of the visit of Iranian President Dr Ebrahim Raisi to Karachi. During his visit, the Iranian president also visited the Mazar-e-Quaid where he laid a wreath.

Security and Emergency Services Division DIG Dr Maqsood Ahmed lauded the officers and personnel for performing their duties with great dedication and hard work. A comprehensive fool-proof security plan in connection with the PSL-09 matches that were played at the National Bank Cricket Arena from February 27 till March 18, 2024, was prepared by the SSU. Around 1,000 SSU commandos, along with police personnel of other districts, traffic police, Special Branch, Rapid Response Force (RRF), Rangers and other law enforcement agencies performed security duties at the stadium, practice grounds, Karachi airport, travel routes, hotels and other areas on the occasion.

An SSU Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team showcased remarkable skills in an international edition of the UAE SWAT Challenge 2024 hosted by the Dubai police at the Al-Rowaiyah Range. The SWAT team of the SSU was Pakistan’s first SWAT team that represented the country in the international event.

A dignified ceremony was held at the SSU headquarters to honour the 40 commandos who passed-out from the Naval Special Operations Training Centre (NSOTC). This event celebrated the dedication and commitment of the commandos who successfully completed an intensive 8-week counter-terrorism course.

Furthermore, 10 SSU commandos completed the counter-terrorism course from the National Counter-Terrorism Center, Kharian, and 20 commandos completed the counter-terrorism squad course from the Anti-Terrorist Training School, Simly Islamabad.

The SSU also exhibited a display at the PHC Job Fair and Education Expo at the Hall No 6 of the Expo Centre Karachi to highlight the services of the security sector, promote modern policing and motivate youth to join police service.

The Pakistan Army, Navy, Anti-Narcotics Force, State Bank of Pakistan and other public and private institutions had also settled their stalls in the job fair. The job fair was organised by the Pakistan Hindu Council in which booths were set up in order to connect job seekers with potential employers based in Karachi and other parts of the country.

Upon arrival of spiritual leader of the Dawoodi Bohra Community and during the religious congregations of Muharramul Haram, Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), a comprehensive security plan was formulated by the SSU in consultation with other departments that proved successful.

The Independence Day Shooting Competition amongst the diplomatic corps was held on the occasion of Independence Day at the SSU Headquarters in which diplomatic corps from the United States (US), United Kingdom, Russia, Turkiye, France, Malaysia, Iran, China, South Korea, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, Oman and Afghanistan participated and exhibited their professional skills in shooting.

On the 2024 Defence Day, the SSU, in collaboration with the International Police Organisation, organised the 2nd Police Extreme Handgun Championship 2024 at the SSU Chowkandi Headquarters.

Representatives of the Pakistan Army, SSG, Pakistan Navy, Intelligence Bureau, Punjab police, Airport Security Force, Motorway Police, Sindh Police and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Elite Police Training Centre Razzakabad participated in the law & enforcement category, while women and men from Sindh, Balochistan and Punjab participated in civilian categories.

In the team category, the SSU secured the first position, and in the individual category, SSU Commando Naveed grabbed the gold medal, whereas, in the female category, SSU lady commandos Nimra and Tayyaba secured the first and second positions respectively.

On the occasion of Youm-e-Shuhadae Police (Police Martyrs’ Day), a special ceremony was held at the SSU headquarters, wherein DIG Ahmed and senior police personnel paid homage to the police martyrs who sacrificed their lives to safeguard the country and its citizens.

The SSU also had recruitment in 2024 for various posts, including those of junior clerk (BPS-11), commandos (BPS-07), driver constable (BPS-07), electrician (BPS-06), mason (BPS-04), plumber (BPS-04), tailor master (BPS-04), painter (BPS-03), carpenter (BPS-03), denter (BPS-03), auto mechanic (BPS-03), Naib Qasid (BPS-01), barber (BPS-01), cook (BPS-01), waiter (BPS-01) and sanitary worker (BPS-01).

A one-day free eye screening camp was also organised for police personnel and their families at the SSU Headquarters in 2024. The camp was established in collaboration with the Digital Media Network Voice of Nation and POB Trust Eye Hospital.

A self-defence and firearms safety course was organised at the SSU Headquarters, in which a delegation comprising faculty members and students of the DHA Suffa University and BBA students of the UIT University participated and gained practical knowledge about self-defence.
