PESHAWAR: The five-day Hunar Mela concluded after showcasing handicrafts crafted by artisans from across the country.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA), Destination Heritage Greens Peshawar and Hunar Zone had jointly organised the event.Advisor to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif was the chief guest.
Prominent attendees included General Manager Destination Heritage Greens Peshawar Sajjad Abbasi, Director Hunar Zone Arooj Hamdani, president of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry Rabia Basri, Prof Madam Tashfeen and other distinguished personalities.
Speaking on the occasion Barrister Saif said that a self-sufficient woman was the foundation for a self-sufficient societyThe KP government, he said, was committed to supporting all activities that encouraged women and helped them showcase their talents and crafts.
He said that the year passed had brought challenges, but the new year had arrived with new hopes. He assured that the KP government would continue to support women on every platform.
“The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would support all activities aimed at empowering women and promoting their skills and craftsmanship,” said the advisor.He also appreciated the role of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA) in supporting the Hunar Mela.
The closing ceremony also featured a musical evening and a cake-cutting ceremony to mark the end of 2024 and the arrival of the new year 2025.The musical event added colours to the evening with performances by singers Akbar Ali Khan, Faisal Marwat, Heer Khan and rubab music. The advisor also cut a cake to welcome the new year.
The Hunar Mela showcased various stalls, including paintings made by students, handicrafts created by prisoners from the Department of Prisons and items crafted by artisans from Swat, Hazara, Bahawalpur, and other districts.
The participants praised the organisers for arranging such an opportunity for the artisans from different districts of the province and country with a platform to present their crafts to the world.
