PESHAWAR: The wholesale Peshawar fish market at Ghanta Ghar, long criticized for causing traffic congestion and unhygienic conditions, has been relocated to Kabootar Chowk on Ring Road following the directives of the provincial government.

Deputy Commissioner, Peshawar, Sarmad Salim Akram inaugurated the new facility in a move spearheaded by Commissioner, Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mahsud, to address persistent public grievances.

The relocation comes as a relief to residents of the inner city who faced daily hardships due to the market’s presence in a congested area. Issues such as foul odors, waste accumulation, and frequent traffic jams had become a routine challenge for locals.

The new site offers spacious facilities, including parking, ensuring better organization of commercial activities while preserving the city’s aesthetics. Speaking at the inauguration, Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Salim Akram stated that resolving public issues and fostering the city’s development were among the administration’s top priorities.

He assured continued cooperation with the business community to promote economic growth in Peshawar. The event was attended by Additional Assistant Commissioners Saleem Ayubi and Waseem Yousaf, as well as representatives from the trader community, who lauded the relocation as a progressive step for the city.

Commissioner, Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mahsud, expressed satisfaction with the relocation, highlighting that the move not only resolves a major issue for inner-city residents but also provides fish vendors with an opportunity to expand their businesses in a more organized environment.

“This decision reflects our commitment to alleviating public hardships while supporting commercial activities. Customers will now have access to fish in a cleaner and more accessible space,” he remarked.
