US bias

US bias

The recent US sanctions on Pakistan’s missile development entities reflect a broader shift in American foreign policy, driven by geopolitical considerations and regional power dynamics. These sanctions are not merely about non-proliferation but are deeply tied to strategic interests and the evolving security landscape in South Asia. Pakistan’s missile programme is a direct response to India’s aggressive military postures. The US approach not only undermines Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns but also exposes the double-standards in US policy, as India receives advanced military technologies and support without similar scrutiny.

The US’ increasing alignment with India as part of its indo-pacific strategy has intensified the strategic rivalry in the region, leaving Pakistan with little choice but to strengthen its defence capabilities. The sanctions, while intended to curtail Pakistan’s missile advancements, are unlikely to impede progress, especially given Pakistan’s growing expertise and support from allies like China. The US must reassess its strategy in South Asia, focusing on fostering stability rather than exacerbating tensions through punitive measures.
