RAWALPINDI: Bushra Bibi and PTI legal team Tuesday met with the party’s founder chairman Imran Khan in the Adiala jail.
Bushra arrived at the jail in a bulletproof vehicle, accompanied by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police. The meeting with the former prime minister took place in the jail’s conference room and lasted approximately 20 minutes, from 3:10pm to 3:30pm, according to the jail sources.
Imran also met with his legal team, including prominent lawyers Shadab Jafri, Faisal Malik, Murtaza Hasan Turi, Faisal Fareed, Mubashir Maqsood, and Ali Ejaz Butter.
Details of discussions during both meetings were not disclosed. However, the legal team is reportedly working on strategies to address the former prime minister’s ongoing legal battles.
Meanwhile, PTI founder chairman Imran Khan Tuesday billed the ISPR director general’s briefing factually incorrect and said the strategy for settlement with the Taliban was devised by the establishment of that time, including General Bajwa and General Faiz.
Talking to reporters here, lawyer Faisal Chaudhry quoted Imran Khan as saying this during his interaction with him at the Adiala jail.
Faisal explained that at first, the cabinet was briefed on settlement with the Taliban followed by the PDM government and the opposition. He quoted Imran as saying that the Peshawar corps commander went to the Taliban at the western border.
“Imran reiterated that the solution to the issue was political and not a military one,” Faisal said.
The party wanted seriousness and forward movement in negotiations with the government and that’s why two demands, namely the election mandate and 26th Amendment, were put on the backburner.
Faisal said two doable demands were put forward to the government committee, including the release of all political prisoners and formation of a judicial commission on May 9 and November 26 incidents. He added that the party’s founder chairman reiterated the demand for a judicial commission and release of all political prisoners.
Faisal underscored the need for more serious efforts to push for the release of Imran Khan and other leaders facing ‘concocted cases’. “We want our cases to be treated as per the law and Constitution, as this will help quash all of them one by one,” he claimed.
Faisal said a series of cases were going on against Imran Khan. All these cases have been made on political grounds and there was no truth in these cases. Faisal said the sentences of military courts were controversial. “Justice does not seem to be done in these trials; the element of transparency is missing. The Constitution of Pakistan should be protected and human rights should be taken care of.”
“We do not accept concessions in negotiations. We demand justice. Our leader is being politically targeted. We are giving the deadline of January 31 to see the seriousness of the government,” he emphasized.
He pointed out that the party founder had talked about an element in the government that wanted to sabotage the talks.
Faisal said Imran Khan had given instructions for the immediate resolution of Parachinar issue and law enforcement agencies were working on it. This issue is spreading in Sindh and Balochistan.
He quoted his party leader as saying that the issue should be resolved on humanitarian grounds; we condemn the steps of the Sindh government and the police, being fascist. “Obviously, one community is being targeted and they have the right to agitate,” he quoted Imran’s statement on the issue.
Faisal claimed that Imran Khan was fully determined and it was the duty of the party to make serious efforts for his release.
