Rawalpindi: Waste-picking activity is no longer visible in several areas. The fruitless and thoyghtless schemes of Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) have turned garbage bins into mini dumping sites. When will a new wave of cleanliness start in Rawalpindi?
“Nobody can ignore the importance of proper waste disposal. We must throw all waste in designated dumping sites to avoid environmental and health hazards,” says Wardan Ali from Raja Bazaar.
“To improve sanitation, better cleaning mechanisms in neighbourhoods is essential. We need to instil in citizens the commitment to protect their environment and involve every citizen to make Rawalpindi an ideal city,” says Azadar Hussain from Tench Bhatta. “Our environment is everything that surrounds us. However, if you visit the Shah Khalid Colony service road you will recognize how indifferent we are to protecting the environment. As a result, this road has become unfit for drivers and pedestrians daily,” says Wafa Abbas from the same locality.
“If the environment is good we will be good, our generation will be good. Moreover, if environmental pollution increases, we will not be well, similarly, our next generation will not be well; this is normal. However, city civic bodies are acting like fools in that regard,” says Harsam Raza from Dhoke Chaudhrian. “The environment in our area was not like that. This road was full of lush green trees. However, today good sense seems to have disappeared. Garbage bins harm our lives. The environment is being polluted due to littering, defecation, and spitting,” says Darian Haider from Gawalmandi.
“The responsibility to keep the road clean is not only that of the government; we too have responsibility. We throw banana peels, and biscuit packets on the road while walking. Never once think that we are spoiling the environment. We are constantly killing the environment,” says Saim Ali from Arya Mohallah.
