Islamabad: The National Skills University (NSU) Islamabad is set to embark on digital transformation, with the launch of a mobile app, "MY NSU," on Jan 1, 2025.
Spearheaded by Founding Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, this initiative marks a significant step forward in integrating technology with education and governance. Prof. Dr. Saud Altaf, Chairperson of the Department of Information Engineering Technology, is leading the development of the app alongside a team of final-year students. Together, they aim to revolutionize how NSU operates, making it a model for digital education in Pakistan, according to NSU.
It said the transformation went beyond mere technological upgrades as it reimagined how the university interacted with students, faculty, and visitors, offering seamless navigation, efficient operations, and enhanced engagement.
The project benefits from NSU’s collaboration with Shenzhen Polytechnic University, China, a UNESCO-UNEVOC partner, ensuring that global expertise informs local innovation. The "MY NSU" app, built using advanced technologies like Flutter and Firebase, offers a wide array of features, including centralized timetables, GPA calculators, campus maps, real-time notifications, chatbot support, and online fee payment. These tools promise to streamline both academic and administrative processes, creating an inclusive and accessible platform that aligns with UNESCO-UNEVOC principles.
Also, the university has planned to expand these technological advancements to areas such as examination management, human resources, and financial operations to enhance transparency, efficiency, and scalability across all university functions.
Prof. Dr. Mukhtar described the initiative as a "milestone" in the university’s pursuit of sustainable education and innovation and said by eliminating redundancies and centralizing processes, NSU sets a benchmark for other institutions to follow, ensuring adaptability to emerging technologies and growing user needs.
