ISLAMABAD: Progress has been made in the process of appointing new trade officers abroad. A written test for the candidates has been scheduled on January 5, 2025. The government has entrusted the responsibility of taking the written test to LUMS. The candidates who pass the written test will be interviewed, while an interview board has been formed under the chairmanship of the minister of commerce. New appointments will be made for 28 posts of Grades 18 to 21 abroad. New trade officers will be sent to London, Moscow, Kabul, Istanbul, Athens, Baghdad, Singapore, Beijing, Paris, Frankfurt, Tashkent, Tehran, Los Angeles, Muscat, Darul Islam, Kuwait, Brussels, Doha, Urumqi and Dushanbe.
Appointments of new trade officers will be made for three years. The prime minister has excluded five posts from the written examination by declaring them diplomatic appointments, including the posts of WTO Ambassador Geneva and Economic Minister in Brussels, two trade and investment consular posts in WTO Geneva and Director of ECO in Tehran. There will be no written test for the five posts, only interviews will be conducted.
