This refers to the letter ‘No good options’ (December 25, 2024) by Abbas R Siddiqi. The writer’s claim that we have no good options in terms of political leadership is largely true. I would go further and say that we have not had good leaders for some decades now and, worse still, looking at the present and emerging leadership, it seems as though there will not be any good options in the near future either. Our politicians are too emotional and lack a sense of direction. Sectarian, ethnic and other divisions only compound these problems as we have been unable to develop a unified voice and hold our leaders accountable. Unfortunately, this has enabled our political elite to exploit us to their hearts’ content for several generations now.
