KARACHI: Arshad A Zuberi, the deputy chief executive of the Business Recorder Group, passed away on Sunday at the age of 72 after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his wife and three children.
Zuberi’s career spanned decades in journalism and publishing. In 1973, he received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the US and joined the Business Recorder Group’s APEX PRINTRY as technical director in 1974. He was initially responsible for the security printing of bank documents and later pioneered the manufacturing of continuous business form stationery in 1976.
The Business Recorder Group was founded by M A Zuberi, Arshad Zuberi’s father. In 1981, Arshad Zuberi became the printer and publisher of the Daily Business Recorder. By 1985, he had become deputy chief executive.
Beyond his contributions to journalism, Zuberi served as secretary general of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) multiple times. He was also the founding member and first secretary-general of the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA), representing television and radio broadcasters. From 2010 to 2013, he was a member of the Tax Reform Coordination Committee (TRC) of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
The APNS, in a statement by President Nazafreen Saigol Lakhani and Secretary General Sarmad Ali, has expressed profound grief over his passing, describing him as a ‘veteran publisher who served the newspaper industry with enthusiasm and great zeal’. They offered condolences to his family and prayed for his eternal peace.
Arshad Zuberi’s funeral prayers will be held today (Monday) at 1:30pm at Masjid-e-Noorul Islam, Zamzama Park, DHA, Karachi.
