PESHAWAR: Commissioner, Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mahsud Sunday directed the authorities to dismantle the illegal vegetable marketBacha Khan Chowk within 72 hours and shift it to the designated site at Inqilab Road.

The orders were given after a meeting chaired by Minister for Excise Khaliqu-ur-Rehman to address traffic congestion in the city. The meeting was informed that the illegal market, situated near Bacha Khan Chowk, remains a significant obstacle to smooth traffic flow. Despite being relocated to Inqilab Road several years ago, the market continues to operate unlawfully at its former site, causing severe disruptions.

Commissioner Riaz Mahsud instructed the district administration, Capital Metropolitan, and Peshawar police to jointly conduct the operation, warning of strict action against non-compliance.

He also demanded a detailed report on the operation’s progress within the stipulated time-frame. Once the illegal market is removed, the road will be reopened on both sides for traffic, significantly improving the flow of vehicles. Additionally, traffic from GT Road to Dilzak Road and Bacha Khan Chowk will be redirected through the newly cleared route to alleviate congestion.
