Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab inspected the restoration work at the Shireen Jinnah Sewerage Pumping Station and the Habib Bank Hosting Pumping Station in Pak Colony on Sunday.

During the inspection, the union committee chairmen concerned requested the mayor to upgrade the Habib Bank pumping station. Responding to the request, Wahab immediately directed the Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) officials to begin the upgrade process.

He said the Shireen Jinnah pumping station has long-standing sewerage issues, and its restoration is a key demand of the residents. The station’s rehabilitation will improve the drainage process significantly, he added.

He also said efforts are afoot to resolve the city’s water supply and drainage challenges. In the old city areas, the Jamila Pumping Station has been made operational to address sewerage problems, while a treatment plant has been installed at TP-3 Mauripur for wastewater treatment, he added.

He stressed that the city’s administration is committed to addressing water shortages through various projects, including the construction of a new canal from Hub, as this canal would significantly ease water scarcity after being completed.

Wahab said the city’s administration is working tirelessly to resolve civic issues. “Our primary goal is to improve the city through road restoration, infrastructure development, and resolving water supply and drainage problems, which remain our top priorities.”

The mayor was also accompanied by his political affairs spokesman Karamullah Waqasi, KWSC Chief Operating Officer Engr Asadullah Khan, Sewerage Chief Engineer Aftab Alam Chandio and other senior officials.
