Narcotics worth over Rs10m seized in Korangi raid

In an operation at the Korangi Crossing, officials of the Sindh narcotics control department seized 10,300 grammes of ketamine and arrested two suspects linked with an inter-provincial smuggling gang.

According to a statement issued by the provincial information department, a press conference was held at the office of Sindh Narcotics Control director general in which it was revealed that the confiscated ketamine was worth over Rs10 million in the international market.

The press conference was told that a case had been registered against the arrested men, Zahid Iqbal, son of Fazal Elahi, and Zulfiqar, son of Din Muhammad.

According to initial investigations, the suspects belonged to an inter-provincial gang involved in smuggling ketamine from Quetta to Karachi.

Officials said efforts were under way to apprehend the other members of the gang and raids were being conducted in multiple locations across the province.

In a separate operation last week, officials raided a private housing society on the Super Highway uncovering a clandestine liquor manufacturing facility. A significant quantity of empty bottles lids of international liquor brands and production equipment were seized in the operation.

The statement read that anti-narcotics operations had been intensified across Sindh on the directives of the provincial minister for excise, taxation and narcotics control, Mukesh Kumar Chawla.

Separately, a young man was injured in firing on the Super Highway near the new Sabzi Mandi on the outskirts of Karachi on Saturday.

According to rescue sources, the firing incident occurred near a U-turn on the highway, leaving a 25-year-old man, Farman Ali, son of Ayub, injured.

He was immediately shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment. The police have lodged a report and have started further investigation into the incident. No arrest could be made till filing this report.
