A senior leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and former member of the Sindh Assembly, Shahzad Qureshi, has said that the traffic situation in the city has become the worst due to negligence of the traffic police.
Police personnel are busy taking bribes instead of performing duties, and traffic accidents have become the norm, he said.
During the year 2024, the citizens of Karachi paid Rs850 million in fines only for traffic violations, Rs200 million for one-way violations, 119.3 million for number plate violations, 124.9 million for jumping the signal, 103.1 million for overloading, 115.7 million for parking in no parking zones, 42.4 million for not wearing a helmet, 53.1 million for installing fancy number plates, 37.5 million for obstructing the flow of traffic, while Rs17 million in fines were collected for not having a speedometer in vehicles, but the situation is even worse than before.
He stressed that the authorities should take notice and relieve the citizens from this mental anguish.
