Vitamin deficiency hits half of Pakistani women, children

JHANG: IRMNCH and Nutrition Programme District Coordinator Dr Emreen Sarwar lectured the lady health supervisors and workers during an awareness session on Friday on “Benefits of Fortification of Edible Oils and its Role in Addressing Vitamin A and D Deficiency.”

More than 30 lady health supervisors and health workers of the district participated in the one-day session. They were informed that more than half of the women and children in

Pakistan are suffering from micronutrient deficiencies, of which iron, vitamin A, and vitamin D are at the top.

During the session, it also briefed that an estimate indicates approximately 9.9 million people in Pakistan are suffering from bone mineral density issues, of which 7.2 million are women and need to be treated.
