CHARSADDA: Fleeing the unrest and extreme hardships in violence-hit Kurram district, a family of five, a couple with three young children, on Friday arrived in Charsadda after a difficult journey through perilous routes.

The family, led by one Fazal Nabi, left their home due to violence, threats to life, acute shortage of food, and the lack of healthcare and employment opportunities.Upon arrival in Charsadda, they spent one night at a bus terminal under freezing conditions and another in a government rest house before finally finding a small rented home in the Umarzai area.

Fazal Nabi, a pushcart vendor by trade, recounted the challenges of survival in Kurram. “Our area has been under siege, and daily-wage workers like me have been hit the hardest,” he said. “With markets closed and no jobs, feeding my children became impossible. Many families are facing similar conditions, forced to choose between starvation or migration.”

He described the dire situation back home, where sporadic work, scarce food, and relentless gunfire have left residents in a state of despair. Medical facilities are non-functional due to lack of medicines, worsening the plight of the sick and injured.

Fazal Nabi paid Rs18,000 to hire a vehicle that transported his family through treacherous mountainous routes to Charsadda. He said hundreds of other families in Kurram were contemplating migration as the situation continued to deteriorate.
