ISLAMABAD: The Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (OP&HRD) took notice of the allegation of the representative of the Pakistan Overseas Employment Promoters Association (POEPA) that the officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) deputed at the airports have been arbitrarily stopping people without valid reasons.
The Committee took notice of the issue and instructed the complainants to submit a written complaint. Furthermore, the Committee directed that a representative from FIA be summoned to the next meeting for an explanation and to clarify their actions.
The meeting of the Standing Committee was held under the chair of Junaid Akbar at the Conference, OPF Building, G-5/2, Islamabad.
The Secretary OP&HRD stated that approximately 6 to 7 lac people were sent abroad, with a scheme launched to benefit the underprivileged, including a training centre in G-7 offering language courses to enhance employability abroad, while the Ministry of OP&HRD provides facilitation services guiding applicants throughout the entire process, from online application to departure.
Managing Director Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OEC) briefed the Committee regarding the regulatory framework, i.e. promotion, and recruitment of Overseas Employment. He also briefed about the composition of the Board of Directors Organisational setup, income and expenditure details, financial performance, demand processing mechanism, 5-year details of workforce, and country-wise performance about South Korea, Kuwait and Japan.
The Ministry informed the Committee about the launch of a web-based soft skills training module, a joint endeavour with OEC and ICMPD alongside the organization of recruitment drives for the Pakistani workforce and the implementation of an awareness campaign in collaboration with the provinces of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan.
The Committee proposed that smart protector offices be established in districts with populations from 5 to 10 million.
The meeting was attended by Sardar Muhammad Yousaf Zaman, Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, Nasir Iqbal Bhosal, Zulfiqar Ali Behan, Ms Shahida Rehmani, Dr Mahreen Razzaq Bhutto, Farhan Chishti, Muhammad Ilyas Choudhary, Sahibzada Sibghatullah, Sajid Khan, Ms Sofia Saeed Shah MNA’s and senior officers from the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, was present in the meeting.
