LAHORE:Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq has directed the officers concerned to develop an effective mechanism for redressal of citizens’ complaints. “Implementation of the Chief Minister’s instructions will be ensured to provide better sanitation services to the people”, he expressed these views while chairing a meeting at the Civil Secretariat on Thursday.

The meeting was convened to review the redressal of citizens’ complaints relating to the Suthra Punjab programme. Additional Secretary Local Government Maria Tariq and CEOs of waste management companies attended the meeting through video link.

The provincial minister expressed his satisfaction over the fact that citizens have started lodging their complaints on the portal. The minister warned that there was no room for any laxity or negligence regarding set goals of sanitation. “Take immediate action on the complaints received and upload the redressal details on the portal”, he directed the CEOs. Zeeshan Rafiq further directed that CEOs of waste management companies should come out of their offices and monitor the field situation. “Special teams should visit the hot-spots on regular basis in their respective areas. Performance of contractors should be monitored and evaluated”, he added.

The minister also directed that supervisors should be appointed at the union council level to monitor the performance of the contractors. “Suthra Punjab is an avant-garde initiative of the chief minister. To achieve the desired goals, the support of the elected representatives and citizens must be obtained”, he maintained. He said that attendance of field staff and data entry on the dashboard must be ensured. “The issues relating to the availability of necessary machinery should be brought to the notice of the secretary so that the same could be procured”, he concluded.
