Customs destroys contraband, smuggled items worth over Rs4bn

Five thousand kilogrammes of hashish, heroin, bhang and ice worth Rs2,634.44 million were destroyed

KARACHI: The Pakistan Customs Enforcement Collectorate Karachi on Wednesday held a ceremony at Deh Naraha in Gadap Town to destroy seized contraband and smuggled goods.

According to the Pakistan customs, the total worth of the contraband destroyed was Rs4.443 billion.

Syed Irfan Ali, a spokesman for the Pakistan Customs, said Sachal Rangers Sector Commander Brigadier Kabir was the special guest of the ceremony, which was also attended by Chief Collector Export Irfanur Rehman, Collector Customs Enforcement Moinuddin Wani, Wing Commander 91 Wing Lieutenant Colonel Bilal, Additional Collector Customs Enforcement Basit Hussain, Deputy Collector Customs Enforcement Syed Muhammad Raza Naqvi, Assistant Collector Enforcement Shahzar Ali and other officers of the Pakistan Customs, Sindh Rangers, police, Anti-Narcotics Force and other agencies.

In his speech, Wani reiterated the resolve of the Customs Enforcement Collectorate Karachi to continue fighting for the prevention of smuggling through land and sea. Later, smuggled items and drugs seized in previous successful operations were burned and destroyed.

Five thousand kilogrammes of hashish, heroin, bhang and ice worth Rs2,634.44 million were destroyed along with 26,000 bottles of foreign liquor worth Rs487 million and 27,000kg of Indian gutka worth Rs382.89 million,

The other items destroyed include 32,000kg of monosodium glutamate worth Rs39.2 million, foreign cigarettes worth Rs362.87 million, 1,870kg of naswar worth Rs9.24 million and prohibited or expired medicines worth Rs5.77 million.
