RAWALPINDI: Pakistan is considering easing the visa policy for all fans and related officials including those traveling from India to watch or cover the forthcoming Champions Trophy cricket in Pakistan.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, who was speaking to the media at Pindi Stadium, said that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who also heads the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), would finalise the visa policy.

“All fans and concerned officials traveling from all parts of the world, including from India, will be welcomed to watch and perform their respective duties. A visa policy to facilitate travel is under consideration by Mohsin Naqvi’s Interior Ministry and Foreign Office.”

The minister said that Pakistan always welcomed Indian fans and travelers who previously toured Pakistan to watch bilateral series between the two countries. “There will be no difference this time around. Unlike our neighbors, we always welcomed our guests and kept sports and politics separate. Even the former Indian cricketers shower praise on Pakistan’s hospitality. There will be no difference this time around.”

Atta Tarar congratulated the Pakistan team on winning the ODI series against South Africa. “The 3-0 series win against powerful South Africa and earlier against Australia clearly indicates that our cricket is pursuing the right direction. Here in the Champions Cup T20 cricket, we have seen some of the best talent. Pakistan is full of potential cricketers capable of earning a name internationally.”

The minister hoped that Pakistan would defend the Champions Trophy title, making the country proud.
