JCP invites nominations for HC additional judges

Commission seeks nominations for 38 vacancies including 12 in SHC, four in IHC, 10 in LHC and nine in PHC

ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has invited nominations under new rules for the appointment of additional judges to high courts from the commission members for filling 38 vacancies.

“I am directed to invite nominations for the appointment of additional judges to all high courts of the country from the members of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan for vacancies as determined by the chairman in consultation with the respective chief justices of high courts,” says a letter issued by Niaz Muhammad Khan, secretary of the Judicial Commission Secretariat.

The secretariat on behalf of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi, chairman of the commission, told the commission members that their nominations must reach the secretariat by January 3, 2025 on the prescribed forms (A and B) along with relevant material on email: jcp@scp.gov.pk. No nomination in the hard form will be received by the secretariat.

The commission sought nominations for 38 vacancies including 12 in the Sindh High Court, four in the Islamabad High Court, 10 in the Lahore High Court, nine in the Peshawar High Court and three in the Balochistan High Court.

As per the letter, Form A relates to credentials of the advocate nominee (including law officers with all the particulars including professional qualifications and experience outlining date of enrolment as an advocate, enrolment as an advocate of high court as well as supreme court, number of cases conducted in high court as lead counsel for a party, number of reported cases, number of constitutional petitions in high court as a lead counsel for a party, besides giving details of civil, criminal, family, rent, tax, service and labour cases. Details were also sought on the number of cases conducted in the supreme court as a lead counsel for a party, civil appeals, criminal appeals, civil petitions for leave to appeal, constitutional petitions and reported cases in the same categories. While Form B relates to credentials of the judicial officer nominee including professional qualifications, professional experience as a judicial officer with dates of appointment as a civil judge-cum-magistrate, posting and positions held during service, legal ability and communication skills.
