PARACHINAR: Dozens of people are attending a protest sit-in in Parachinar against the killing of two residents in the Bagan area in Lower Kurram.
The protesters demanded the reopening of the roads, which has created a shortage of food, medicines and fuel in the Kurram district. The protesters demanded action against those, who killed two residents of Kurram recently. The deceased were returning to Parachinar from Peshawar. The participants demanded justice for the deceased and urged the government to bring the perpetrators to justice. The bodies were handed over to families. Tribal leaders, including Jalal Bangash, Abid Hussain, Inayat Hussain, and relatives of the deceased, condemned the act and demanded justice for the slain people. They called for action against the perpetrators and urged the government to reopen the Peshawar-Parachinar main highway, which had been blocked for weeks. The sit-in protest in Parachinar has now entered its fifth day. Criticizing provincial government, the protesters accused it of failing to honour its promise to reopen the roads. They described the closure as an act of injustice against the people of Parachinar facing a crisis-like situation. The road blockade has led to complete shutdown of markets due to shortages of supplies. Meanwhile, district administration officials said the government had announced a relief emergency for Kurram. They assured efforts were underway to restore peace, reopen the roads, and engage in negotiations to resolve the crisis.
