ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Privatisation, Board of Investment, and Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has announced a revised strategy for the privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited (PIACL), incorporating lessons learnt from past experiences to ensure better outcomes.
Chairing a meeting of the Privatisation Commission Board on Tuesday, Aleem Khan said the recent reforms had made PIA’s privatisation “easier and more attractive,” offering hope for a more efficient process and positive results.
Last week, Aleem Khan had announced that PIA would be privatised without carrying forward its liabilities, a move aimed at attracting investors.
About the privatisation of distribution companies (Discos), Aleem Khan instructed the board to finalise issues with the Ministry of Energy within a week.
During the meeting, the board approved the proceedings from its previous session and discussed key recommendations on various government entities. Members stressed the need to resolve outstanding matters with relevant ministries to accelerate progress.
The Privatisation Commission Board must work diligently to complete pending tasks in the shortest possible time, Aleem Khan said, reiterating the government’s commitment to economic reforms and the efficient management of state-owned enterprises.
