Sugar prices in Pakistan have skyrocketed in recent years. This surge has been attributed to various factors, including hoarding, smuggling, and speculation. The government has attempted to regulate prices by allowing sugar exports, but this has had limited success. To address the sugar price crisis, the government must take a multi-dimensional approach.
This includes enhancing data collection and analysis to inform decision-making, implementing effective regulations to prevent smuggling, hoarding, and price manipulation and transparency in the sugar industry to ensure fair competition and prevent malpractices. By addressing these challenges and implementing effective solutions, Pakistan can stabilise sugar prices and ensure a fair and transparent market for all stakeholders.
