LONDON: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) organised a huge power show in London to celebrate former prime minister and party leader Nawaz Sharif’s birthday.

Organised by businessman and UK PMLN President Ahsan Dar, who was recently appointed by Nawaz Sharif as the UK party chief, nearly 1000 PMLN supporters attended the birthday event at a hotel in West London. This was the largest event PMLN has held in several years. Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif was the chief guest and especially flew to London for the event.

The last event by UK PMLN at this scale and level was in 2006 when Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif were about to end their exile under Pervez Musharraf and return to Pakistan from London. PMLN workers from several parts of the UK - and some from Europe - also attended the event.

Ahead of the birthday event, Ahsan Dar and UK PMLN Secretary General Rashid Hashmi toured the UK to announce new chapters with new roles. Before cutting the cake to celebrate birthdays of Nawaz Sharif and Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and to mark the Christmas festivities, speeches were made with Khawaja Asif and Ahsan Dar as headline speakers.

Ahsan Dar said, “This is a record turnout. More than 1000 people attended Nawaz Sharif’s birthday party to show solidarity and love for our leader, the benefactor of Pakistan. There are many more who could find no place inside the venue and returned. A lot more wanted to come but we told them there was a limited space available. Nawaz Sharif remains the only leader of Pakistan who has almost each and every development and economic initiative to his credit. He has benefitted Pakistan like no one else and it’s duty to pay homage to his role. His work is continued by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the federal and Maryam Nawaz in Punjab.”

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif lashed out at former prime minister Imran Khan and his “politics of poison, negativity and destruction”. The politician said, “He’s the biggest product of the establishment and today he’s after his own creators. He has done to his creators what even our worst enemies could not have imagined. Imran Khan was installed on Pakistan to discredit Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari and others. A whole campaign of lies and false hopes was run over several years to bring him into power but he failed on every count and then turned on his creators for his selfish gains.” Khawaja Asif said that Imran Khan and his whole family was knee-deep in financial corruption by all imaginable means but they were able to portray themselves as anti-corruption.

“This is our failure. We have not been able to build a social media narrative in the way we should have. We need to focus more on social media to counter propaganda by Imran Khan’s supporters.” Asif said the people of Pakistan need to know the truth of £190 million case.
