LAHORE:Lahore Development Authority (LDA) is planning to remodel the Tollinton Market and in this regard, LDA DG Tahir Farooq visited Tollinton Market on Monday.
Wasa MD Ghufran Ahmed and LDA Chief Engineer Asrar Saeed were also present on the occasion. Wasa and LDA officials briefed the LDA DG about the proposed plan.
Speaking on the occasion, Tahir Farooq said that the remodeling of Tollinton Market will be done on the special instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The Tollinton Market will be made dirt-free and for this purpose, multiple mechanisms such as sewerage, exhaust system and waste disposal system will be built. He said the encroachments will also be removed from the market and besides this the parking facilities and the outlook of the market will be improved as well, he added.
LDA DG further said that SOPs will be implemented in Tollinton Market with the cooperation of local trader unions and shopkeepers. The remodeling of Tollinton Market will enable the people of provincial capital to be provided with hygienic meat, he added. Later, LDA DG visited B-3 Block Gulberg and reviewed the ongoing development works there. He said that encroachments and green belts built outside the houses in B-3 Block Gulberg were being dismantled.
In the first phase, the streets and highways of B-3 Block are being worked on. The footpaths are being improved and the wiring is being shifted underground. The signage of the streets of Gulberg Scheme will be improved and the green belts will be done in the same style. On this occasion, the project director and contractor gave a briefing about the ongoing works.
Later, an important meeting was held at Wasa Head Office under the chairmanship of LDA DG Tahir Farooq. MD Wasa Ghufran Ahmed gave a detailed briefing on the Lahore Development Programme, Gaddafi Stadium water tank and the Supreme Court Registry Branch drain lines. LDA DG directed that the ongoing projects under the Lahore Development Programme should be monitored continuously. No compromise should be made on the quality of the ongoing projects under the Lahore Development Programme. LDA DG also visited Wasa Control Room.
Later, LDA DG along with MD Wasa reviewed the drain line under construction at the Supreme Court Registry Branch. MD Wasa and the director concerned gave a briefing on the drainage works around the Registry Branch. There will be a permanent solution to the drainage problems around the Supreme Court Registry Branch. The contractor and Wasa officials were present on the occasion.
Furthermore, on the instructions of LDA DG, LDA teams conducted a full-scale operation against illegal commercial buildings and commercial fee defaulters and sealed 112 properties and demolished several illegal structures.
LDA teams conducted operations in Gulberg, Sabzazar, Raiwind Road, Gulshan Ravi, Shadman, and Canal Road. The properties sealed included private schools, shops, offices, restaurants, stores, bakeries, etc. Several notices were given to these properties before the operation.
