Sherry Rehman condemns US sanctions on Pakistan
Sherry says Trump transition should be opportunity to engage on strategic CBMs between Pakistan and US
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Vice President and parliamentary leader of the PPP in the Senate Senator Sherry Rehman said that American sanctions on Pakistani firms are neither new nor impactful in any meaningful way.
“They do however, reflect a geopolitical view that is tone deaf to Pakistan’s defence imperatives which have zero intent or focus on the United States,” she said on a statement on social media Platform ’X’ .
Sherry Rehman said anyone seriously engaged with Pakistan would know that there are better ways to manage relations and allay strategic concerns about Pakistan’s deterrence posture.
The PPP parliamentary leader Islamabad has never favoured an arms race in South Asia nor projected hard power in ways that suggest predatory intent or strategic irresponsibility. “The war monger in the region in fact, is certainly not Islamabad, quite the opposite, the big ICBM developer and defence spender, New Delhi,” she said.
Sherry Rehman said the Trump transition should be a fresh opportunity to engage on strategic CBMs between Pakistan and the United States in 2025.
