Arts Council of Pakistan (ACP) President Ahmed Shah has retained his hold on the council as his panel swept to power in the ACP biennial elections held on Sunday.
The polling was scheduled to take place between 12noon and 8pm. Of the 6,780 registered voters of the ACP, 2,215 cast their votes. Shah’s panel won all the seats with a big margin. The rival panel led by Najmuddin Shaikh, who has served as the ACP treasurer in the past, could not secure any seat.
Karachi Commissioner Hassan Naqvi announced the results in a press conference in the late hours of the day. Shah secured the ACP president’s post for another tenure after polling 1,977 votes. His rival Shaikh received 185 votes. Ejaz Faruqi was elected as the secretary after receiving 1,942 votes. He defeated Mubashir Mir who polled 155 votes. Munawwar Saeed was elected the vice president with 1,953 votes while Noorul Huda Shah won the post of joint secretary with 1,891 votes. Qudsia Akbar was elected the treasurer with 1,939 votes. Shah’s panel also clinched all the 12 governing body slots.
