Overcharging on perishable items persists
LAHORE:Issues of overcharging and sales of lower grade fruits and vegetables at A-grade rates persisted in the absence of any checks and balances from the district administration and lack of interest of the elected representatives.
It seems both the public and elected representatives have surrendered to the mafia who manage the price controls with the connivance of the government officials. This week mainly increasing trend in the prices of perishable items was recorded as majority of vegetables rates remained high.
This week price of chicken increased by Rs25 per kg and was fixed at Rs309-323 per kg, sold at Rs400-430 per kg and chicken meat by Rs36 per kg, fixed at Rs468 per kg, and sold Rs500-800 per kg.
The price of potato soft skin A-grade was further reduced by Rs3 per kg, fixed at Rs80-85 per kg, sold at Rs130-150 per kg, B-grade at Rs70-75 per kg and C-grade at Rs60-65 per kg, mixed sold at Rs100-120 per kg. The price of onion A-grade further reduced by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs114-120 per kg, sold at Rs150-160 per kg, B-grade at Rs100-105 per kg, and C-grade at Rs90-95 per kg, mixed sold at Rs120-130 per kg. The price of tomato A-grade further gained by Rs40 per kg, fixed at Rs180-190 per kg, sold at Rs250-280 per kg, B-grade fixed at Rs160-170 per kg, and C-grade at Rs140-150 kg, mixed sold at Rs200-220 per kg.
The price of garlic local reduced by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs540-560 per kg, sold at Rs800 per kg, Garlic GI variety increased by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs335-350 per kg, sold at Rs400-450 per kg and Garlic China reduced by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs555-5 per kg, sold at Rs800-1000 per kg.
The price of both Ginger Thai and Chinese was further reduced by Rs35 per kg, fixed at Rs300-310 per kg, both sold at Rs450-600 per kg. Cucumber Farm further gained by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs47-50 per kg, sold at Rs100-120 per kg. Brinjal price was unchanged at Rs57-60 per kg, sold at Rs100-120 per kg. Biter gourd gained by Rs35 per kg, fixed at Rs125-130 per kg, sold at Rs180-200 per kg.
The price spinach increased by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs28-30 at Rs50-80 per kg. Zucchini farm further gained by Rs50 per kg, fixed at 105-110 per kg, sold at Rs140-160 per kg, and Zucchini long by Rs60 per kg, fixed at Rs87-90 per kg, sold at Rs150 per kg.
Price of cauliflower unchanged at Rs72-75 per kg, sold at Rs100-140 per kg, cabbage gained by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs43-45 per kg, sold Rs100-120 per kg. Carrot Chinese gained by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs155-160 per kg, sold at Rs350 per kg, carrot local reduced by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs57-60 per kg, sold at Rs80-120 per kg.
Mongray was declined by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs170-180 per kg, sold at Rs250-280 per kg. The price of different variety of apples fixed at Rs100-240 per kg, sold at Rs150-450 per kg.
The price of banana A-category unchanged at Rs125-130 per dozen, sold at Rs160-180 per dozen, and B-category fixed at Rs76-80 per dozen, sold at Rs130-140 per dozen, and C-category at Rs57-60 per dozen, sold at Rs100-120 per dozen. Guava was reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs80-115 per kg, sold at Rs120-150 per kg. Pomegranate danaydar fixed at Rs350-360 per kg, sold at Rs450-500 per kg, pomegranate kandahari further gained by Rs30 per kg, fixed at Rs240-335 per kg, sold at Rs280-450, pomegranate bedana increased by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs525-545 per kg, sold at Rs800-1000 per kg.
Dates were reduced by Rs5 per kg, fixed at Rs405-410 per kg, sold at Rs600 to 1400 per kg. Papaya gained by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs225-235 per kg, sold at Rs250-300 per kg.
Grapes Sunderkhani declined by Rs10 per kg, fixed at Rs310-320 per kg, sold at Rs400-500 per kg, grapes gola gained by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs215-225 per kg, sold at Rs280-350 per kg, grapes tofi reduced by Rs15 per kg, fixed at Rs255-265, sold at Rs400-500 per kg.
Musami was gained by Rs5 per dozen, fixed at Rs90-130 per dozen, sold at Rs150-180 per dozen. Grapefruit was increased by Rs2 per piece fixed at Rs28-30 per piece, sold at Rs35-40 per piece.
