Q1: Dear Abidi, I have completed my Bachelor’s in Software Engineering from Bahria University with a CGPA of 3.6. I am considering pursuing a Master’s in Game Development or Virtual Reality. Could you advise me on which field offers better career prospects? (Faizan Ali, Karachi)

Ans: Dear Faizan, both Game Development and Virtual Reality (VR) are growing fields with immense potential. Game Development involves creating and designing interactive games for consoles, mobile, and PCs, with opportunities in entertainment companies, indie studios, and even education. Virtual Reality, on the other hand, focuses on creating immersive digital environments with applications in gaming, healthcare, real estate, and training simulations. Game Development offers immediate roles in a well-established industry, while Virtual Reality is an emerging field with growing demand across multiple sectors beyond entertainment.

Q2: Respected sir, my daughter has completed her O-levels and is now considering her subject choices for A-levels. She is inclined towards Environmental Science but we are unsure about its scope in Pakistan. Could you guide us on the subject's prospects and suitable career paths? (Rashida Karim – Karachi)

Ans: Dear Ms Karim, Environmental Science is an emerging field in Pakistan and globally, given the increasing focus on climate change, sustainability, and renewable energy. Your daughter can pursue A-levels in subjects like Biology, Chemistry, and Geography, which align well with Environmental Science. After completing her A-levels, she can consider bachelor's programmes in Environmental Science, Ecology, or Renewable Energy Management. In Pakistan, there are job opportunities in NGOs, government organisations, and multinational companies working on environmental projects. Additionally, postgraduate studies abroad can further enhance her prospects in this field.

Q3: Dear Sir, I have done my bachelor’s in Computer Science and am interested in pursuing a master’s in Artificial Intelligence. Can you suggest if this is a good decision and where I should apply, both locally and internationally? (Bilal Javed – Islamabad)

Ans: Dear Bilal, pursuing a master's in Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an excellent decision as it is one of the most sought-after fields in today’s technology-driven world. Locally, NUST, FAST, and COMSATS offer good master's programmes in AI. Internationally, universities like Stanford, MIT, Imperial College London, and ETH Zurich are renowned for their AI programmes. Keep in mind that AI requires a strong foundation in programming, mathematics, and data analysis, so make sure your bachelor's degree has adequately prepared you for this field. Furthermore, gaining some work experience in AI-related projects will strengthen your application.

Q4: Respected Sir, I have completed my bachelor’s in Civil Engineering but do not wish to work in construction or design. Are there any other career options I can explore with this degree? (Tariq Mahmood – Lahore)

Ans: Dear Tariq, with a degree in Civil Engineering, you can explore several alternative career paths. These include Project Management, Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning, and Renewable Energy. If you wish to diversify further, consider doing a postgraduate diploma or master’s in areas like Supply Chain Management or Construction Law. Additionally, certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) can open opportunities in project management across various industries.

Q5: Dear Mr Abidi, I am in the final year of my BBA in Finance and want to work in investment banking. Can you suggest the skills and certifications I need to pursue this career? (Fahad Sheikh – Jhelum)

Ans: Dear Fahad, investment banking is a competitive field that requires strong analytical, communication, and quantitative skills. In addition to your BBA, consider obtaining certifications like CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) or FRM (Financial Risk Manager). These are globally recognized and will make your profile stand out. Internships at banks or financial institutions can provide practical experience and help you build a professional network. Also, staying updated on global financial trends and enhancing your proficiency in tools like Excel, Power BI, and financial modeling software is essential.
