In an age where the internet should empower voices, Pakistan's Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) 2016, or, rather, the way it is being implemented, is taking us in the opposite direction. The misuse of Peca is hampering one’s right to free speech and the public's right to information.
When the truth is silenced, it is not just the immediate victims who suffer but the entire nation. We must take immediate action to reform Peca and ensure it protects citizens from online harm instead of infringing on their fundamental rights.
