PESHAWAR: The newly-elected head of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Abdul Wasi, on Saturday criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders for being unable to work for welfare of the people despite ruling the province for the third straight term.

He was speaking at a gathering after taking oath as head of the Central Zone of the province. The JI has restructured the party in the province by abolishing the provincial set up and divided it into four zones. The new heads for the zones were named recently.

Besides Abdul Wasi for the Central Zone, they include Prof Mohammad Ibrahim Khan as president Southern Zone, Inayatullah Khan for Northern Zone and Abdur Razzaq Abbasi for Hazara division.

Abdul Wasi said: “The provincial government has completely failed to address the needs of the people during the testing times. Instead, it uses state resources, including official vehicles, ambulances, and rescue machinery, for political demonstrations in Islamabad.”

He accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led government of prioritising the release of its leader over addressing inflation

and unemployment. Highlighting fiscal mismanagement, he pointed out the sale of university lands to pay salaries and the withholding of funds for local bodies.

These actions were tantamount to betrayal of the public mandate, he added.

The JI leader expressed his resolve that his party would continue the struggle for the well-being of the masses and get the injustices in home and abroad resolved.
