PCG seizes 10 trawlers in actions against illegal fishing
The Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) has seized 10 trawlers during operations against illegal fishing through trawlers in November and December.
A PCG spokesperson stated that these operations were vital not only for protecting the rights of legitimate fishermen but also for stabilising the national economy and preserving the marine ecosystem. Trawling, which causes significant damage to marine environments and disrupts fish breeding, directly affects the livelihoods of local fishermen.
Furthermore, many of these trawling vessels were linked to other illicit activities, including the smuggling of drugs and weapons, posing a serious threat to national security, the spokesperson added.
The spokesperson emphasised that the efforts of the PCG to combat illegal activities reflect their unwavering commitment to their responsibilities and their determination to protect the country's coastal and marine resources from external pressures.
