A sessions court has sentenced a woman to seven-year imprisonment in a case pertaining to injuring a labourer during a botched robbery.
Mariya was arrested in August last year after she, along with her two male accomplices, attempted to steal cash amounting to Rs1.9 million from a citizen in North Nazimabad on August 15, 2023, leaving a labourer injured.
Additional Sessions Judge (Central) Ghulam Mustafa Laghari observed that the prosecution had succeeded in proving its case against the accused beyond any shadow of reasonable doubt.
He sentenced the woman to seven years in prison for committing the offence punishable under the Section 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). She was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs10,000 or undergo additional 15-day imprisonment.
Rizwan chose to ride his motorcycle on the left side of the Jam Sadiq Bridge heading toward Qayyumabad Bridge. Unfortunately, the trailer had been parked on the bridge’s left side due to a mechanical failure. The driver left the trailer there without taking any safety measures such as warning signs or lights.
The trailer’s presence in complete darkness went unnoticed by Rizwan, resulting in a devastating collision. Poor driving practices, lack of proper safety measures, and inadequate street lighting have led to numerous fatal accidents. In recent days, five similar accidents involving heavy vehicles have been reported from the city. A case has been registered.
