JOHANNESBURG: South Africa’s former pacer Roger Telemachus, who played 37 ODIs and three T20Is from 1998 to 2007, has expressed his excitement over the inclusion of young Kwena Maphaka in South Africa squad which is currently playing against Pakistan in a three-match ODI series, says a press release.
Maphaka has also been included in the Test team for the two-match series against Pakistan as well. Although he might not play, Telemachus said that he was on the right track. Maphaka did not play in the first One-Day International in Paarl which Pakistan won by three wickets but with two games in the series left, there is a good chance he might still make his debut in this format.
The third One-Day International will take place at the DP World Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg tomorrow (Sunday). Meanwhile, Captain Temba Bavuma who did not play in the first match after being rested is likely to return to the Playing XI.
Coach Rob Walter said that they are pleased with the squad and will be using this series to fine tune their preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy. Pakistan have an unassailable 2-0 lead ahead of the third and final fixture in Johannesburg on Sunday.
In second one day International Pakistan edged South Africa by 81 runs and the lead the series by 2-0.South Africa surprisingly sent the visitors into bat on a ground where it is known to be difficult to chase under lights, and Pakistan posted an above-par 329 all out.
