PESHAWAR: Tribal elders from Mohmand district reaffirmed their commitment to peace and development during a jirga at the Commissioner’s Office on Friday

At the jirga, Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Mahsud announced the resumption of construction on the Eakkaghund-Ghalanai road next week, the rehabilitation of 100 drug-addicted youth at government expense, and intensified action against drug dealers.

The jirga, attended by over 150 elders from various tribes, provided a platform for discussing critical issues, including the incomplete Khar-Gorsal road, reopening the Gorsal border for trade, pending Khasadar force salaries, and the resolution of the Mohmand-Bajaur boundary dispute.

The jirga also discussed access to clean drinking water from the Kabul River, electricity provision for Baizai, and compensation for homes destroyed during terrorism. Commissioner Riaz Mahsud praised the tribal elders for their unwavering support and efforts to maintain peace. “The cooperation of Mohmand’s elders is instrumental in addressing the district’s challenges and fostering sustainable development. “The administration will leave no stone unturned to resolve their issues,” he said. He assured the jirga of swift action on their demands and announced plans to hold meetings to expedite solutions.

Regional Police Officer, Mardan, Najib-ur-Rehman assured participants that strict measures would be taken against anti-state elements and appealed for continued cooperation from tribal leaders in ensuring the rule of law.

The elders expressed gratitude to the administration and security forces for their efforts to improve the law and order situation. They pledged to work closely with the government to address challenges and promote development in the district.
