A senior leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and former member of the Sindh Assembly, Shahzad Qureshi, has said that the severe water crisis in Sindh, tanker mafia and the deteriorating law and order situation have made the lives of the citizens of Karachi a terrible torment.

On the one hand, the people are yearning for a drop of water, while on the other hand, the increasing incidents of crime have made the lives of the people unbearable, he said. Qureshi added that mobile snatchings, robberies and harassment of women have also become the norm. In addition, the tanker mafia is also charging exorbitant prices from the citizens for providing water.

The CPLC statistics on crime incidents in the city are embarrassing for the Sindh government, he remarked. Instead of providing basic facilities to the people, the rulers of Sindh are busy pleasing their leaders, he said.

The PTI leader said the Sindh government, Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation and the Karachi mayor should take immediate and effective steps to solve the water crisis so that this longstanding problem is resolved.

He further said the K-4 project has also been pending for many years. The PPP has been in power for 16 years and the current mayor of Karachi is also from the same party, but the PPP has not come up with any new water supply plan for the citizens of Karachi, he said. A comprehensive and sustainable strategy needs to be adopted to resolve this crisis so that clean and abundant water can be provided to the citizens, he added.
