PUASA concerned over pension issues
LAHORE:The Executive Council of Punjab University Academic Staff Association (PUASA) Thursday expressed concerns over the recent notifications of the Punjab government regarding the pension matters of the employees. In this regard a meeting was held and it was presided over by PUASA President Dr Amjad Abbas Magsi and moderated by Secretary Dr M Islam.
The meeting participants observed that the notifications would affect the teaching community to a large extent. The council demanded the withdrawal of the Punjab government's notification of reduction in pension benefits and restoration of the old system of leave encashment as it will affect especially university and college teachers. The draft of the amendments in the Constitution of ASA was also presented before the Executive Council for the initial approval and onward transmission to General Body for final approval.
The council members deliberated the draft and appreciated the committee members for their commendable work. It was decided to continue the deliberations for a consensus draft to be laid before general body of the Association.
ASA lauds PU Syndicate meeting’s decisions
Punjab University’s Academic Staff Association (ASA) has welcomed, what it termed, the significant decisions made during university’s Syndicate meeting on Thursday, applauding the administration's commitment to fostering accountability, inclusivity, and faculty welfare.
In a press release, Dr. Amjad Abbas Khan Magsi, President, PUASA and Dr M Islam, Secretary, observed that among the key reforms were the implementation of the "One Person, One Post" policy, the transparent enforcement of a rotation system for departmental heads, and the approval of long-awaited increments for faculty members affected during 2019-2021. Additionally, the Syndicate approved the formation of a new committee to establish merit-based criteria for faculty selection, deferred deliberation on the Punjab government’s LPR notification, and took a firm stand on preserving the varsity assets by rejecting external land requests. These decisions reflect a collective effort toward institutional strengthening and ensuring a balanced academic environment.
