The Parachinar region has witnessed a surge in violence and casualties in recent months, with the attack on a passenger convoy being a particularly disturbing incident. Reportedly, the main road connecting Kurram to Peshawar has been closed, severely impacting the local population's access to essential supplies, including medicine. Tragically, several children have reportedly lost their lives due to the unavailability of medical supplies. It is alarming that the government has not taken adequate measures to address the situation, and one cannot help but ask: where is the state apparatus in this time of crisis?
The situation demands immediate attention and intervention from the state authorities. Those responsible must be held accountable for their failure to provide basic security and services to the people of Parachinar. As experts emphasise, prioritising peace and stability in the region is crucial to safeguarding the population from future violence. The local administration, in conjunction with state resources, must take swift action to restore order, reopen vital supply routes, and ensure the delivery of essential services, including healthcare.
