LAHORE: President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Atif Ikram Sheikh and Vice President & Regional Chairperson Zaki Aijaz have said that consistent policies are vital for promoting industrialization in Pakistan.

They underscored that the government’s role should focus on creating a conducive business environment rather than engaging directly in commercial activities. They cautioned that the absence of policy continuity deters both domestic and foreign investment.

During a visit by trainee officers from the Civil Services Academy to the FPCCI Regional Office in Lahore, FPCCI leaders proposed the establishment of a charter of economy. They argued that such a charter, supported by all political parties, would ensure the stability of economic policies irrespective of changes in government.

The officials also urged the government to devise a comprehensive industrial policy to harness Pakistan’s untapped potential. They stressed the importance of creating favourable conditions for boosting exports and insisted that no trade policy should be drafted without consulting FPCCI, the country’s premier business chamber.

As part of its Vision 2030 initiative, the FPCCI aims to raise Pakistan’s exports to $100 billion. This roadmap focuses on strengthening district-level and sectoral economies to drive overall economic growth.

While briefing the trainee officers, Zaki Aijaz highlighted the FPCCI’s pivotal role, along with other trade bodies, in shaping the nation’s economic policies. He said the essential role of civil servants in economic development, particularly in formulating policies and advancing public welfare.

Aijaz also addressed Pakistan’s trade strategy, discussing the challenges and opportunities it presents. He noted that bolstering the national economy would enhance the country’s competitiveness on the global stage.
